Top Three Buffalo Bills Trade Candidates Entering Preseason Week 3

As is often the case when the preseason winds down, the Buffalo Bills will need to make some tough decisions as they trim their roster from 90 players down to 53.

Buffalo has the luxury of a deep roster, which is why they're considered a favorite in the AFC. That also means there won't be too many open spots for young players trying to break through.

That being the case, here's a look at three Bills players who might not be able to make the final cut, but deserve to be part of an NFL franchise. Perhaps Buffalo could try and bring in draft capital rather than outright releasing these players and getting nothing in return.

Keleki Latu, TE

Keleki Latu didn't make much noise in Week 2 against the Browns, but he went into this game with his arrow pointing all the way up. Latu has been a solid performer in all aspects, but is part of a very crowded tight end corps.

With Dalton Kincaid, Dawson Knox, and Jackson Hawes all ahead of him, Latu is likely on the outside looking in. Recently, I wrote about how teams will be interested in claiming Latu if he is indeed waived. With the anticipated interest, the Bills might want to see if someone is willing to give up a draft pick to avoid crossing their fingers on waivers.

Javon Solomon, EDGE

A fifth-round pick out of Troy in 2024, Javon Solomon has always showed promise as a pass rusher. This year, seems to be close to breaking through thanks to his fit in Jim Leonhard's scheme. Solomon has been used as a stand-up pass rusher and looks far more comfortable. He has generated plenty of pressures and had a sack this weekend. Solomon could still make the team over Mike Danna, but he could also be an interesting trade piece.

Ian Wheeler, RB

Undrafted rookie Ian Wheeler has been one of the standouts during the preseason. After recording 41 yards and a touchdown against the Panthers, Wheeler added 56 rushing yards and 21 receiving yards on Saturday against the Browns.

It won't be easy for him to make the roster with James Cook, Ray Davis, and Ty Johnson all ahead of him, but his physical running style could make him popular among running back-needy teams. Rather than waiving him and risking getting nothing in return, the Bills could decide to add more draft capital, assuming they don't make the surprising move of keeping Wheeler over Johnson or Davis.
