The 2023 NFL regular season is finally here and the Sunday slate in Week 1 includes an interesting matchup between two AFC West teams looking for fresh starts.

The Denver Broncos will be playing their first game under new head coach Sean Payton, who returns to the league after a year out following his departure from the New Orleans Saints after the 2021 season.

The visiting Raiders have not had a coaching change, but they have moved on from long-time quarterback Derek Carr, with Jimmy Garoppolo now leading their offense.

Sportsbooks expect these teams to fill the third and fourth spots in the AFC West this season, but whichever comes out on top will have a confidence boost heading into the rest of the schedule.

Our NFL expert handicapper has Raiders vs. Broncos predictions for this fascinating matchup, and we also have details of how new customers can claim an awesome FanDuel Sportsbook promo which offers you the chance to bet $5 and get $200 in bonus bets win or lose, and also claim $100 off NFL Sunday Ticket!

Raiders vs. Broncos Predictions for NFL Week 1 on Sunday, 9/10

The Broncos went 5-12 under head coach Nathaniel Hackett last season and will be hoping to show that is now all in the past when Sean Payton takes charge of the team for his first regular-season game at Mile High on Sunday.

The injury issues that have affected the team have not entirely gone away, with leading receiver Jerry Jeudy having suffered a hamstring injury two weeks ago, but the good news for Broncos fans is that he has been able to return to practice this week.

With Hackett now gone, the focus will be on quarterback Russell Wilson to show he can recapture the success he had in his time with Seattle now that he can call on the shrewd offensive mind of his new head coach.

As for the Raiders, they went 6-11 in Carr's last season as their starting QB but if he couldn't take them where they want to be, it's hard to see why they think Jimmy Garropolo, who was considered expendable by the 49ers, is likely to do any better.

The Raiders have also had to deal with a distraction this week, with edge rusher Chandler Jones having a public dispute with the team and looking set to miss the opening game at least.

This first game could tell us plenty about what we are likely to see from these teams this year and how their AFC West seasons will turn out.

Raiders vs. Broncos NFL Picks Highlighting Broncos -4

The Broncos look solid home favorites for this game giving up four points on the spread at FanDuel Sportsbook. Denver actually won its first two home games last season, beating the Texans and 49ers in Weeks 2 and 3, and the Broncos were generally better in front of their own fans last year, when their only win away from Colorado came against the Jaguars in London.

The Raiders have some star names with running back Josh Jacobs and wide receiver Davante Adams, but it may take some time for Garoppolo to fall in step with his new receivers.

The Broncos could also have growing pains as they get used to Payton's playbook, but the reason that the Broncos were such a disappointment last season was that their roster had offered so much hope before the season began. With running back Javonte Williams having made a tremendous recovery from his knee injury, the team could be in for a much better campaign if Wilson rediscovers his mojo and better times could start to roll with a clear home win over their division rival.
