Additional Details on Perrion Winfrey's Tumultuous Rookie Season

Browns defensive tackle Perrion Winfrey has been making headlines quite a bit since being drafted by Cleveland during the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. However, it hasn't been the publicity that Winfrey nor the Browns had hoped for.

Since being drafted by the Cleveland Browns, Perrion Winfrey has had maturity issues and has been disciplined by the team on multiple occasions that were made known to the public. However, a source tells me that there have been similar, undisclosed incidents that have resulted in teammates questioning how he's still a member of the organization.

Most recently, Winfrey was arrested on Monday and charged with assault in Harris County, Texas for allegedly causing bodily harm to his girlfriend.

On the Friday before the Browns Week 2 home opener against the New York Jets, Winfrey was not at practice due to a team-related disciplinary issue.

The discipline then carried into Sunday's game, where Winfrey was a healthy scratch in what would've been just his second career game in the NFL, and first home game. According to a source, this was due to being late to practices.

Winfrey rejoined the team for practice on the following Tuesday as the Browns began preparing on a short week for their next opponent, the Pittsburgh Steelers. Winfrey told reporters that it was a one-time thing and that he learned from his mistake.

Superstar defensive end Myles Garrett, among others, used their voice in an effort to hold Winfrey more accountable moving forward.

However, after the Browns heart-breaking loss to their divisional rival Ravens in Baltimore during Week 7, there was a reported screaming match in the locker room following the conclusion of the game that could be heard from several rooms over.

The Browns fourth straight loss had players' emotions running high. Head coach Kevin Stefanski and Garrett downplayed the issue to the media following the game, explaining it wasn't abnormal, that players wanted to win.

While that may be, I'm told Winfrey was right in the middle of the screaming match that broke out, which wasn't necessarily the best look for the rookie defensive tackle.

Fast forward just a few weeks later, Winfrey was a healthy scratch yet again for the Browns Week 10 matchup with the Miami Dolphins.

Just a few weeks later, Winfrey was then involved in a scooter accident in which he suffered a concussion, causing him to miss more time.

Multiple players are shocked as to how Winfrey is still on the team, I'm told.

To this point, the organization has only noted they are aware of Winfrey's legal situation, but given the seriousness of the matter and his track record, it has the potential to be the last straw for Winfrey with the Browns.
