Report: Browns Working Out QBs Friday, Including Joe Flacco

Browns general manager Andrew Berry said the team would add a third quarterback after losing Deshaun Watson for the season

Browns general manager Andrew Berry vowed in the aftermath of announcing star quarterback Deshaun Watson's season was over, that the team will be adding a third signal caller to the roster. That process is underway.

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Cleveland is hosting quarterback workouts in Berea Friday morning and former Baltimore Raven and Super Bowl champion, Joe Flacco is in attendance.

At 38, Flacco is in the limelight of his career having bounced around between the Broncos and most recently the Jets after spending 11 seasons in Baltimore. Browns fans may recall all too well when Flacco led the Jets on a miraculous, 13-point comeback win with under two minutes to go in Week 2 of last season. That was one of just five total games the veteran appeared in last year for New York, starting four of those. He finished the 2022 campaign 110-of-191 passing, for 1,051 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions.

In his last year in Baltimore in 2018, Flacco played in nine games before suffering a hip injury that required surgery and cost him the remainder of that season. A year prior wound up being the last time Flacco played a full 16-game slate for any team.

Flacco would bring a veteran presence to the Browns quarterback room if signed. However, with him and most of the quarterbacks available on the open market right now, Cleveland would likely hoping to just catch lightening in a bottle.

The same could be said about rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson, who the team announced would start against the Steelers this weekend.

The fifth-round pick had a rough NFL debut against the Ravens back in Week 4, completing 19-of-36 passes for only 121 yards and three picks. With a full week of preparation centered around DTR though, Kevin Stefanski and company have said all week that they believe he's made noticeable progress and is ready for a second opportunity.
