This Metric Ranks The Browns As A Top Third Most Improved

A metric from Unexpected Points ranked every team based on improvements made this offseason. Find out where the Browns fall on the list.

Change is inevitable during the NFL offseason. So despite the fact that the Cleveland Browns won 11 games and made the playoffs last season, the roster was never going to stay exactly the same.

Of course all 32 teams are in the same boat as they build their rosters for the 2024 season hoping to dethrone the Kansas City Chiefs as Super Bowl champions. According to the the Unexpected Points Offseason Improvement Index, the Browns are in the top third of the league in terms of the roster improvements they've made this offseason.

The list, which was shared by Kevin Cole of the Unexpected Points Newsletter and Podcast, featured the Browns as the 11th most improved team this offseason. They were the second highest ranked AFC North team behind the Bengals who came in as ninth most improved team.

As for the rest of the AFC North, the Steelers came in just outside the middle of the league as the 18th most improved team. While the metric considered the reigning division champion Baltimore Ravens as the team that regressed the most in terms of improvement.

Cole's metric tracks each team's improvement based on plus or minus points that the team has lost or gained from its respective offseason moves. Leading the entire NFL with a nearly 50-point improvement this offseason is the Atlanta Falcons, who made one of the biggest moves to date by acquiring veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins.

To this point, the biggest move Cleveland has made was trading for 2020 first-round pick Jerry Jeudy. While that may not be considered a major blockbuster by NFL standards, general manager Andrew Berry has juggled an expensive roster and still found ways to addresses pretty much every major hole the Browns had this offseason. He'll get his next opportunity to add to the roster in a couple weeks at the NFL Draft.
