Multiple Teams Watching Baker Mayfield Amid Free Agency Talks With Buccaneers

Amid free agency talks between the Buccaneers and QB Baker Mayfield, other teams are keeping a close eye on the veteran.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers head brass are starting to make moves ahead of the opening of free agency at 4:00 pm ET on March 13th.

A key decision that the Buccaneers needed to get settled was the future of WR Mike Evans. On Monday, the Bucs did just that as it was reported that the two sides met and agreed upon a two-year contract extension with the star wideout - making it more and more likely that he will remain a Buccaneer for life.

Now, with Mike Evans in the fold for the next couple of seasons, the Buccaneers and 'The Krewe' will turn their attention to what the future holds for quarterback Baker Mayfield.

As senior NFL Insider Dianna Russini mentions, the Buccaneers will now shift their attention toward efforts to reach a contract extension with quarterback Baker Mayfield. According to Russini's sources, Mayfield is not willing to take a hometown discount to stay in Tampa Bay - leading many to question whether or not he will come back even with his favorite weapon in Evans now signed for the foreseeable future.

While the Bucs try and get things in order to try and nail down a contraction agreement with Mayfield, other teams around the NFL will be without a doubt paying close attention as Baker could become a free agent in just under 10 days. His resurrection last season definitely opened eyes around the league and if he does enter free agency, there won't be a shortage of suitors.

Both the Buccaneers and Mayfield have let each other know through public comments that they would love to reach an agreement and return to Tampa Bay, but it will be up to whether or not the top decision makers at One Buc Place are willing to meet Baker for what he is asking.
