Cowboys Left Speechless, Humbled After Cardinals Loss

In this story:
TEMPE -- The dust is still settling on the Arizona Cardinals' 28-16 victory over the Dallas Cowboys, and for both sides, it feels like a fever dream.
The Cowboys approached Week 3 as massive favorites after steamrolling their previous competition, and the Cardinals were 12.5-point underdogs by Vegas books after being accused of tanking during a 0-2 start.
Yet the script was flipped in a major way at State Farm Stadium as the Cardinals never trailed in their first win of the season.
“A lot went wrong. I don’t really have words, it’s just bad. Bad football, it wasn’t sound, it was just bad," Cowboys safety Jayron Kearse said after the game. Dallas allowed 222 rushing yards with Arizona scoring on their first five possessions.
Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said the team was humbled by Arizona:
“Honest and real. I address the game and my thoughts on the game and the reality of where we are. We are two and one. We’re going to fully expect to win every week. Obviously we’re disappointed. We are disappointed to be leaving here without a win. But this is part of the journey. This is part of the humbling component of the National Football League. Just like anything. Every experience gives you an opportunity to grow. We need to grow from this experience.”
Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott agreed after turning the ball over for the first time all season on a game-sealing pick to Kyzir White late in the fourth quarter:
“We’re staying in the moment. It's who we are. It's who this team is. This was a humbling loss in that sense. We’ve had a lot of adversity just throughout the week. It wasn’t easy. It wasn’t easy (and) nobody’s making excuses. We thought we had a great opportunity to come in here, even with the adversity and get a win and we didn’t. Every week you’ve got to reset and you have to refocus. Honestly, it’s a little bit easier after a loss so there’s not going to be any worries about that."
Although Micah Parsons did manage to find a sack, the Cardinals mostly contained one of the best defenses in the league and put up 28 points against Dallas - a number only allowed twice in regulation by the Cowboys last season and far more than the combined ten points they allowed entering Week 3.
Next up for the Cardinals? A date in San Francisco with the 49ers in Week 4.
