Highlights: Cardinals Fall to Chiefs in Week 2 of Preseason

In this story:
GLENDALE -- After defeating one AFC West team, the Arizona Cardinals weren't quite able to pull off some comeback magic once again.
The Kansas City Chiefs - very familiar with winning at State Farm Stadium - walked away from their preseason meeting vs Arizona with a 38-10 win on Saturday night.
Here's how the action panned out:
First Quarter
After the Cardinals deferred to the second half, Patrick Mahomes and company took over but were unable to do anything on their first drive, going three-and-out.
Colt McCoy and crew took over for Arizona's first drive and suffered a similar fate, as both sides would exchange punts until the very end of the quarter, where Mahomes led Kansas City on a 10-play, 78-yard drive capped by a touchdown pass to Justin Watson.

Second Quarter
Despite Patrick Mahomes' departure from the game, that didn't stop momentum on their offensive side of the ball.
The Chiefs - under the guidance of QB Shane Buechele - marched down the field on a seven-play, 88 yard scoring drive that was capped with a 15-yard rush by the backup quarterback.

With Clayton Tune at QB, the Cardinals still were unable to get anything going offensively. KC again went on a lengthy drive to extend their lead, moving on a nine-play, 60 yard drive to eventually add three more points via a 28-yard field goal from Harrison Butker with two minutes to play in the half.

Tune and Arizona's offense finally found some momentum near the end of the half,
The Cardinals thought Greg Dortch had scored on a crossing route with under 30 seconds left in the half, but the officials reviewed the play and ruled him just short of the end zone.
With the ball at the one-yard line and 15 seconds left, the Cardinals jumped early on a false start penalty before Keaontay Ingram managed to find the end zone on a nice second-effort rush to put Arizona on the board.

Third Quarter
Tune and Arizona's offense took the field for the third quarter of play and were able to trim KC's lead thanks to a 54-yard Matt Prater field goal to open the second half scoring.

Kansas City - under the direction of third-string quarterback Blaine Gabbert - answered with a scoring drive of their own on a seven-play, 85 yard drive that was capped with a 15-yard touchdown pass to Ihmir Smith-Marsette.

With 1:35 left in the third, it was again Gabbert who connected on a touchdown pass, this time to Cornell Powell to extend KC's lead.

Fourth Quarter
In Tune's final drive of the game, Arizona got all the way down and eventually connected on a touchdown pass to Andre Baccellia - before it was called back due to a penalty. The Cardinals weren't able to convert (despite having the ball at the one-yard line) and turned the ball over on downs.
Chiefs QB Chris Oladokun - who admittedly played very close to preseason Mahomes talent as any quarterback could - marched Kansas City down the field for yet another touchdown. Their 11 play, 86 yard drive was capped by a two-yard Deneric Prince score.
