Chargers News: NFL Columnist List This Position As Biggest Draft Need for The Bolts

In this story:
We're less than three weeks away from the 2023 NFL Draft, and it can't come sooner enough. Your Los Angeles Chargers currently hold the 21st overall pick of the draft, and we're unsure what they'll do with that pick.
The Bolts' brass may know what they want to do, but nothing is certain until they make the pick. The draft is a perfect way to address a team's needs instead of grabbing the next available player. The Chargers will need to address their needs in this draft, and there are a ton of prospects from different positions who could do the job.
NFL columnist for Last World on Sports, David Latham, addressed what needs each team from the AFC West, and here is who he thinks the Bolts need this draft with their first pick.
Los Angeles Chargers: Tight End
Fortunately for the Chargers, this is the best tight end draft class in quite some time. While the team could add Michael Mayer in the first round, they might be smarter to address a different position with their first-round pick and draft someone like Luke Musgrave in the second round. After all, the jump in talent from Mayer to Musgrave isn’t nearly as dramatic as the jump from Jordan Addison to a second-round wide receiver.
LA needs more explosive weapons in their offense, and the players mentioned above could help them in that regard. Michael Mayer from Norte Dame had a dominant 2022 season. He played in 12 games, snatched 67 catches totaling 809 yards, and caught nine touchdown passes for the Fighting Irish. According to NFL draft buzz, he's ranked as the number one tight end in the 2023 draft class.
As for the Beavers' own Luke Musgrave, he only played two games in 2022 after an injury-impacted season. In his last full season in 2021, he played in 13 games, hauled 22 catches for 304 yards, and got himself one touchdown. NFL Draft buzz has Musgrave projected to go in the second round and is the fourth-best tight end in the class.
The Bolts could use some reassurance in that position, and they've been linked to other tight ends. This year's tight-end class looks deep, so they might not need to use it on a tight end. We'll see what the Bolts do and if they go with a tight end on April 27th.
