The Los Angeles Chargers just kicked off their mandatory minicamp and one by one, all of our favorite players have been filing in and catching up with one another. Mike Williams gave us a great welcome back video with Keenan Allen and multiple members from the coaching staff have spoken with reporters about the new direction of the franchise in 2023.

It's been great to see Austin Ekeler back in his powder blue jersey, even if it's just a practice one, and head coach Brandon Staley has assured that the organization would not have been the same without him and that he is never taken for granted.

But the other bit of news that everybody is waiting for is when Justin Herbert will be granted his extension and how much will he garner compared to other young star QB's like Lamar Jackson and Jalen Hurts. The money he's going to receive played a huge role in LA not granted Ekeler the extension he was looking for.

Staley also spoke on how far the front office and Herbert have gotten in settling on a deal and his update was quite simple.

"#Chargers HC Brandon Staley on Justin Herbert's contract negotiation: "Ongoing."

Herbert has made it clear on his end that he is much more focused on making sure that his shoulder is back to 100% after his recent surgery than he is on getting an extension done with the Bolts.

There is likely an understanding between both parties that Herbert, who is entering his fourth year with the organization, will definitely remain with LA for years to come and there is no pressure to get his signature on any documents immediately.

Despite just being 25-years-old, Herbert continues to showcase his maturity and priorities of helping the Chargers win their first Super Bowl in franchise history. He is super close to obtaining generational wealth and trusts that the front office will take care of him in due time.
