Chargers News: CBS Sports Writer Unveils LA's Hidden Gem at TE

Los Angeles tight end Gerald Everett could be an x-factor for the Bolts in 2023.

Looking at the Los Angeles Chargers' upcoming season, there are multiple storylines surrounding the team, from the ongoing contract negotiations between the franchise and starting running back Austin Ekeler to how the Bolts' offense will perform under new OC Kellen Moore as they try to ascend to the top of the AFC West.

Speaking of that, it'll be intriguing to see just how tight end Gerald Everett is used under a Moore-run offense.

Going back to Moore's time running the Dallas Cowboys offense, their tight ends were used regularly in Dallas' attack, and it looks like the same could be in store for the Chargers TE, given that background.

Everett was already a sizable part of the Charger offense last season, his first year with the organization after starting his NFL career with the Los Angeles Rams.

But with Moore in charge of the Chargers' offense, Everett could be in line for an even bigger 2023 after a standout debut season in the powder blue.

CBS NFL writer Cody Benjamin seems to share that sentiment, naming the seventh-year tight end the most "underappreciated" Charger.

Is he a superstar at a position that kind of lacks them? Not necessarily. But coming off four straight years with at least 400 yards, including a career-high 555 in his Chargers debut, Everett proved in L.A. to be a requisite safety valve for Justin Herbert, which is more impressive when considering opponents often keyed in on him amid a rash of wide receiver injuries.

Everett's already shown the track record to be a more than capable tight end in the league, as underrated as he's been when looking at the entire NFL. Add Kellen Moore into the equation, and he could be in line for his most productive year yet.

And with an offense that already includes weapons like Ekeler and wide receivers Mike Williams, Keenan Allen, and first-round pick Quentin Johnston, the Bolts' attack could be moving right along in 2023, with Everett very much a part of that show as well.
