Dating all the way back to 2014, the Chargers have only known Derek Carr as the starting quarterback whenever they game planned for the Raiders. However, that all changes now that they have brought in Jimmy Garoppolo on a 3-year, $72 million contract.

It is clear that the Raiders are looking to build a new culture after a very disappointing 2022 campaign. Carr stuck with the franchise through thick and thin but the time came for him to move on and taking his place is a 31-year-old who also has a lot to prove.

Despite displaying a long resume of winning during his time with the San Fransisco 49ers, Jimmy G's time there was also plagued by injuries and late-game hiccups in his final three seasons there. His talent has never been a question, as he most notably led the squad to a Super Bowl appearance in 2020, but it's the extra intangibles that doubters look to.

He has only faced off against LA once in his career and helped his team to 22-16 win during the 2022 season. He enjoyed a passing rate of 94.3 and recorded 240 yards on 19 completions.

Looking ahead the upcoming season, a panel of experts from CBS revealed that they believe Garoppolo to be the biggest 'boom or bust' signing going into 2023.

"Signing Garoppolo is like buying a Ferrari that breaks down 50% of the time that you drive it. When it's working, you have an awesome car that might get you to the Super Bowl, but there's a 50% chance it won't be working."

"Jimmy G didn't break the bank with his new deal, but his play directly affects Josh McDaniels' job security. This was a big decision."

"Even last offseason when the Raiders were being hyped up by many, they were a team I was most skeptical about. Garoppolo is a quarterback who many, including myself, have been unsure about, so mixing skeptical with unsure makes it hard to pin down whether this combination will gel or break down. On the flip side, Garoppolo has shown signs of success and McDaniels did thrive previously in his career." (Via CBS)

Even though the Chargers only saw Jimmy G once prior to this year, they will have to get used to it. Whether the Raiders succeed this year or not, LA will have to take them out a minimum of two times.
