At long last, the Chargers have fired Brandon Staley and Tom Telesco, but who will step up in their place?

Chargers News: Interim Candidates Bolts Could Target After Firing Brandon Staley

In this story:

At long last, the Los Angeles Chargers organization had enough of head coach Brandon Staley and general manager Tom Telesco. Dean Spanos and the franchise officially announced that both are being relieved of their duties

In what was the final straw for the team, Staley saw his squad beaten embarrassingly last night during primetime. The Las Vegas Raiders marched into the game and dropped 63 points on the Bolts, which is the most the franchise has ever given up,

Though the consensus was that Staley should have been let go far before this loss occurred, there was no turning back after last night. The franchise needs new life breathed into it, and letting go of the front office was the first step in the right direction.

Despite letting go of Staley and Telesco, there is now a gaping hole that must be filled. Someone will need to step in to take the reins for the Chargers, who still have three games left.

Here are a few candidates that should be considered:

Kellen Moore

Despite the offensive output being less than stellar for the Chargers, Kellen Moore is a logical choice to step in as interim head coach. Moore made a name for himself when he stepped up as the offensive coordinator of the Dallas Cowboys.

Despite current head coach Mike McCarthy wanting to retain Moore as OC when he took over the Cowboys, they mutually parted ways heading into the 2023 season. Moore had been linked to several head coaching positions, though that did not come to fruition,

Moore is an offensive-minded coach, which is what the Chargers need right now. Though some might criticize Moore's play-calling abilities this season, it would make sense for his chance to be promoted to come swiftly.

Derrick Ansley

Derrick Ansley is currently the defensive coordinator of the Chargers and another solid and logical interim head coach candidate. The one thing that the Bolts have is a defense that shows up every game, apart from last night. S

Should Dean Spanos want to keep a defensive-minded coach as the head coach, Ansley would be the next man up for the job.

Ansley was already being pegged as a head coaching candidate for next season, as he has done some wonderful things with this defense.

Brian Flores

It is not out of the realm of possibility that the Chargers would want to look outside the organization to bring in an interim head coach. Flores is currently the defensive coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings.

It would be a bit strange for Flores to up and leave the Vikings, but he would get his second crack at being a head coach. He previously served in that role for the Miami Dolphins.

Flores is a severely defensive-minded coach would could mimic what Staley was doing with the team, but in a far better fashion.

The Chargers already announced that an interim head coach will be named soon, though we are unsure when that will be. With their next opponent being the Buffalo Bills on December 23, there is some time to get the right candidate.

Then again, the interim head coach will need to get this team into shape to potentially win their final three games while giving themselves a chance to be named the new head coach of the Chargers come the offseason.
