The name of the game in any sport is health. Whichever team is the healthiest come playoff time likely has the best chance of winning it all. Obviously, we’ve seen teams go on magical runs when star players go down or injured teams winning games that they probably shouldn’t. But for the most part, availability is the best ability within the sports world.

For the Los Angeles Chargers, this rings true as well. After dealing with a ton of different injuries last year, they are hoping for a clean bill of health this time around. But one player, in particular, is focusing on this: star defensive end Joey Bosa.

Bosa has been one of the better defensive players in the NFL since being drafted out of Ohio State, and when healthy, he is a force to be reckoned with. However, he hasn’t been able to stay on the field and was limited to just five games last season.

He put up 2.5 sacks and 10 tackles over those five games, but the Chargers will need him to stay healthy if they want to reach their goals this season. Yet, one football evaluator is concerned about Bosa’s longevity and whether he can make it through a full season.

"He's been really good for a long time at the art of knowing how to beat your opponent -- I just wonder if the body will start breaking down," an NFL personnel evaluator said. "He's still a relatively young guy, but he's played a lot of football."

The ability of Bosa to get off the line and into the backfield is special. He uses his speed and power to disrupt the opposing team’s offensive schemes, and it gives the Chargers a major advantage on defense.

When Bosa is on the field, opposing offensive coordinators have to pinpoint where he is at all times and scheme against him. This allows others on the LA defense to have space to make plays because of the concern with Bosa.

In his last healthy season back in 2021-2022, Bosa put up 10.5 sacks and 51 tackles for the season. He also added in seven forced fumbles as well so these are the kind of numbers that we should expect from him this season.

This will be a major year for Bosa to prove he can stay healthy. He is one of the major x-factors in the overall success of the Chargers this season, and they rely on him a ton within their defensive schemes.
