Chargers News: With Defense Flailing, Brandon Staley Confident About Offensive Growth

In this story:
Entering this week, the Los Angeles Chargers are feeling like a team that knows they let one slip away from them in their last game. LA dropped another matchup, this time at the hands of the Detroit Lions by a score of 41-38.
The offense for the Chargers did their job, and it helped keep them in the game. But the defense once again showed some real issues and didn’t do their part in helping secure the win.
At this point in the year, it’s unlikely that the problems on the defensive side of the field will change much for the Bolts. But the offense can at least continue to grow each week to at least give this team a chance.
Head coach Brandon Staley spoke about the potential of the offense, and how what they did well against Detroit.
"[We] didn't start fast as a team. Offensively, I thought we got it going," Staley said about the offense Wednesday. "Those last five drives are indicative of how we can play. Good balance, good explosions, I thought we were good in the third-down and red-zone category.”

LA has always been an offensive-minded team, which is ironic since Staley was hired due to his strong defensive mind. But since he has taken over, the offense has been one of the few strong parts of the team.
The Chargers know that they need to keep building off their performance offensively against the Lions, and they have hope the defense will get better. Or they could always just try to outscore opponents each week, even if that isn’t a sustainable route to winning.
"We've got to continue to build off that," Staley added.

If LA can put up this type of scoring outburst this week, they likely will come away with a win. They face the Green Bay Packers, who have seen some offensive issues this season themselves, so staying the course will be key for the Chargers this weekend.
