The Los Angeles Chargers went through their initial free agency wave, completed the 2023 NFL Draft, and have now begun their Rookie Camp. Even before all of of this, John Johnson III was continuously linked to LA as he was liking jersey edits of himself in powder blue and said to have met with the front office on multiple occasions.

However, his status remains the same and he has yet to join the Bolts or any other team. Whether it is because they cannot agree on a dollar amount or it's due to him seeking other teams, the interest has always been there and he would have a clear role on the team.

Last season, we probably wouldn't be having this conversation as the Chargers already house a solid safety option in Derwin James Jr. and Nassir Adderley was quickly on the rise. But Adderley opted to shock everyone with his retirement announcement about a month ago and James has an injury history ever since coming into the league.

Therefore, Bleacher Report's Maurice Moton still views this as an immaculate move for both sides and projects a contract to still be agreed on.

"To shore up a weak area of the defense, especially when James isn't on the field, the Chargers should sign John Johnson III.Johnson can play both safety spots and line up in the slot. Furthermore, he's familiar with head coach Brandon Staley, who was his defensive coordinator when the Los Angeles Rams ranked No. 1 in points and yards allowed in 2020. In that season, Johnson led the Rams in tackles (105) and allowed a 73.2 passer rating in coverage without giving up a touchdown.Johnson would fill one of the Chargers' roster needs and fits their defensive system."

The last time Johnson was in LA, he won a Super Bowl... maybe he can bring that magic once again.
