Chargers Will Embrace Aggressive Play with Justin Herbert

The Bolts plan to let it fly this season!

With the new addition of offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, the Los Angeles Chargers seem ready to take over this coming NFL season. Moore brings a new philosophy to offense than what Los Angeles was using last season, and it should help immensely.

The Bolts were prone to strange offensive lapses in their games a year ago, so Moore was brought in to make sure that didn’t happen again. He wants to bring a new, aggressive mindset to the table, and it all starts with star quarterback Justin Herbert.

The Chargers want to form their offense around the skillset of Herbert, which is a great idea, considering he is one of the best signal-callers in the game. The guys around Herbert seem to fully support this idea, especially if it leads to them scoring a ton of points.

“We want to be the aggressors,” tight end Gerald Everett said. “We want to be one of those teams that people are afraid to play. We want to be known for putting up points and gaining a ton of yards.”

Under Moore, the Chargers plan to play faster and more freely than a year ago. They want to take more shots down the field, even if the results don’t always suit them. Wide receiver Mike Williams gave his thoughts on the new system.

“More interceptions?” Williams said. “Why not more catches for us? Why you got to look at it like a negative like that? You can be risky and not have the interceptions, you know.”

Herbert has a rare ability to play the quarterback position, and the Chargers are wise to let him fling the ball around the field. It’s what he does best and what makes him so unique as a player. Head coach Brandon Staley spoke about his guy and what they plan to do with him this season.

“We don’t ever want to take away Justin’s instincts because I think those are what make him so special,” Staley said. “With more experience is going to come more play making.”

It’s make-or-break time for the Bolts this season. After reaching the playoffs a year ago, the Chargers will be looking to build off that success.

Moore will play a crucial role in this, and they finally get their chance to show what they’re made of this weekend when they host the Miami Dolphins to kick off the new year.
