Chargers News: Stat Highlights Bolts' Defensive Shortcomings After Green Bay Loss

After another defensive collapse resulting in a stunning 23-20 Los Angeles Chargers loss to the Green Bay Packers this past Sunday, the team is now finding its season quickly slip away from its hands.

While there could be a multitude of reasons why the Chargers have been losing games, the one thing that has remained consistent is the inconsistency of the defense.

Daniel Popper of The Athletic seems to have noticed one trend that is constantly daunting to the defense this year and that is the expected points added per game.

As it shows, the Chargers currently rank 31st in the NFL for EPA and have been struggling to find ways to finish games.

Since being eliminated in the divisional round of last year's playoffs, the Chargers have been letting opponents hang around in games and find ways to come back against a team that should be one of the best in the league.

With names like Derwin James, Joey Bosa, Asante Samuel Jr., and Khalil Mack, the Chargers personnel is loaded with talent. However, the results are showing otherwise.

Last Sunday, the Chargers lost a game that was a must-win for them against the Green Bay Packers. Unfortunately, they ended up losing the game late in the fourth quarter once again and now have a team record of 4-6, last in the AFC West.

On Sunday afternoon, Packers fans swore they saw the second coming of Aaron Rodgers at quarterback against LA as Jordan Love had his best game of the year throwing for 322 yards with two touchdowns, zero interceptions and a completion percentage of 67.5% picking apart the LA defense left and right.

When good teams are losing at the mid-way point of the season, adjustments are needed. Today, the NFL saw the 6-4 Pittsburgh Steelers make an adjustment by relieving Offensive Coordinator Matt Canada in hopes of their chances of reaching the playoffs. We also saw the second-place 6-5 Buffalo Bills relieve OC Ken Dorsey last Monday night after a frustrating loss to the Denver Broncos.

Earlier this week, Chargers head coach Brandon Staley was asked if he would make a mid-season adjustment by relinquishing play-calling duties to another member of his staff and refused to do so.

With LA in last place in the division and a dominant Baltimore Ravens team coming to town, the Chargers could really find themselves in a hole before they begin their last month of regular season play.

Following Baltimore, the Chargers will still have to play the Bills at home, the Kansas City Chiefs twice, the Las Vegas Raiders, and the Denver Broncos twice, both of whom are starting to find their identity as a team in the most crucial part of the regular season.
