Chargers Insider Pegs Tight End On Struggling Club as Potential Trade Deadline Target

In this story:
With the Los Angeles Chargers pulling in a much-needed win against the Chicago Bears, the attention will now go to head coach Brandon Staley on strengthening the team before the trade deadline ends.
The Bolts are currently 3-4 and hold second place in the AFC West. It's not as though the team is incomplete, but there are some questions regarding depth. One such place to look is the tight-end position.
Star tight end Gerald Everett is still dealing with a lingering injury, leaving the team with Donal Parham Jr., Tre' McKitty, and Stone Smartt. Though the three reserves can step in the role while Everett heals, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reveals bringing over Geoff Swain from the Arizona Cardinals would make sense.
Another run-blocking possibility, Swaim signed a one-year, $1.7 million deal with the Cardinals right before the start of training camp. He spent four seasons with Chargers offensive coordinator Kellen Moore in Dallas — three when Moore was a reserve quarterback and one when Moore joined the coaching staff as quarterbacks coach. So there is familiarity there. Swaim would cost around $1 million against the cap. The Cardinals are 1-6 and should be looking to acquire whatever draft capital they can from a rebuilding roster.

The good idea behind this trade is that Swain gives the Bolts some much-needed depth while Everett is healing. It's better to allow him to heal properly while bringing in a depth player who can also act as a run-blocking option.
The Chargers have yet to get Austin Ekeler going the way that he usually does, and Swain could come in to be a big body needed to further open those running lanes for Ekeler.
At 6'4 and 260 lbs, Swain could easily come in and push some lineman around. He may not be a pass option right now, but his familiarity with Kellen Moore could also change that.
With the trade deadline looming, this could be a viable option that the Chargers should explore.
