Chargers News: Quentin Johnston Discusses "Relief" After Logging 1st-Ever NFL TD In Week 9

In this story:

Sometimes even in losses, there are special moments for players. For Los Angeles Chargers rookie wide receiver Quentin Johnston, that is exactly what happened last weekend. In the team's 41-38 loss to the Detroit Lions, he scored his first career touchdown in the NFL.

After all the struggles that he has seen this season, this was a big moment for the young wide-out. He knows it's not easy to play in the NFL, but this was a moment he will never forget.

Johnston gave his thoughts on scoring his first career touchdown, and nobody was happier for him than the Chargers coaching staff.

“It was amazing,” Johnston said. “It was a big relief because it’s something I work hard for. Obviously, touchdowns don’t come easy, especially at this level, even though Keenan makes them look easy, they’re not as easy as he makes them look. It was just a proud moment for me and my family.”

It hasn’t been an easy year for the Chargers first-round pick so far, and this was a special moment for him. He now has the confidence to continue building off this performance, and the hope is that he will do just that.

LA needs him to step up for the rest of the season, and he has been showing signs of improvement each week. But the biggest thing for Johnston is to understand that being consistent in the NFL is the name of the game.

The rookie works best when he is in space, so the Bolts may want to open things up for him a little more. He is an explosive athlete and can make life very tough on opponents when he gets the ball in his hands.

The Chargers know the damage that he can do, otherwise, they wouldn’t have drafted him. But now it’s time to unleash his skill set and let him show why he was a first-round draft pick. This is a great first step for the rookie, and hopefully, we see more scores this season from him.
