Colts Legend T.Y. Hilton Shares Details on Andrew Luck's Retirement
A night that will live in the minds of Indianapolis Colts fans for years to come is the day former quarterback Andrew Luck retired from football.
In a recent interview on The Trenches Show with Colts linebackers Zaire Franklin and E.J. Speed, former Indy wide receiver T.Y. Hilton shared unknown details of Luck's retirement in 2019.
The Trenches Show posted on X: “If you didn’t send him off that way, you might’ve gotten another luck sighting”
Franklin kicked off with a question to Hilton, "What was it just like to see him get that send off?"
Franklin was referring to the Indy crowd booing the former No.1 overall pick after the news broke of his decision to hang up the cleats on his career.
Hilton replied, "It hurt, and I know it hurt him." Hilton continued by saying, "Indy shouldn't have did that."
The Colts legendary pass-catcher concluded with the quote that has been talked about by many Colts fans over the past 36 hours.
"I'm just gonna be honest, bro. If they wouldn't have did that, probably would've had a Luck sighting, and that's what's gonna hurt them even more."
Luck's injuries had taken a toll on the franchise QB. All of this culminated in his decision to dismiss himself from the NFL. Even nearly five years later, Luck's retirement lives on in the minds of not just Colts fans, but also current and former players like Hilton.
There is also a question of Hilton hinting that Luck possibly wanted to return to football that year or later. But, the treatment he received from the fans he played for years for deterred him.
Hilton mentioned that Luck deserves to be in the Colts Ring of Honor. The question is, will he want to return if he's given this franchise accolade after the negative treatment he received from fans?
There's no doubt he should have the distinction, as through six seasons played in Indianapolis, Luck finished with a 53-33 record, 23,671 pass yards, 171 passing touchdowns, and 14 rushing scores. His career more than warrants his name to be etched in Lucas Oil Stadium.
Sadly, nobody will ever know the hard details unless Luck speaks out on the situation. With how quiet the former four-time Pro Bowler has been since 2019, it's hard to say at this moment.
Fast forward to 2024, and Indy has a new franchise QB in Anthony Richardson and a bright leader in head coach Shane Steichen.
Regardless of the successes that may or may not come, the Luck retirement won't go away anytime soon. Yet again, the "what if" on Luck's career has resurfaced after this information divulging from Hilton.
