The Indianapolis Colts are already on the move with acquisitions, only this time it's not for the roster.

The Colts are bringing former Philadelphia Eagles quarterbacks coach Alex Tanney onto the offensive staff, per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

Fowler posted on X: "The #Colts are hiring former #Eagles quarterbacks coach Alex Tanney to the offensive staff, per source. Tanney reunites with Shane Steichen from their days in Philly."

Colts head coach Shane Steichen knows Tanney very well. Steichen was the Eagles' offensive coordinator in 2021-22 when Tanney was an offensive assistant and assistant quarterbacks coach.

Tanney assisted Steichen with star quarterback Jalen Hurts in Philadelphia to become one of the NFL's most deadly field generals. Tanney was also on the offensive staff when Philly nearly won Super Bowl LVII.

Tanney will help Steichen, quarterbacks coach Cam Turner, and offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter develop the young, dynamic passer Anthony Richardson in his second pro season.

Tanney also brings NFL experience playing quarterback, as he was a backup for the Tennessee Titans (2015) and New York Giants (2019).

This is a hire that Steichen trusts to help better the offensive attack. Tanney's official position on the staff is to be passing game coordinator, the first the Colts have had since 2020.

Also, Indy is hiring former Titans defensive quality control coach Justin Hamilton as their assistant defensive backs coach, per James Boyd of The Athletic.

Boyd broke the news on X: "The #Colts are also hiring Justin Hamilton as their new assistant DBs coach, per a league source. He was a defensive quality control coach for the #Titans during the 2023 season.

Hamilton will replace Mike Mitchell, whose contract was not renewed this offseason."

Hamilton will replace former Colts assistant defensive backs coach Mike Mitchell. This hire is likely to help defensive backs coach Ron Milus to smooth out the rough edges for a young corps that struggled at times during the season.

2023 was Hamilton's first season coaching in the NFL, as he spent the previous four years at Virginia Tech. He ultimately got promoted to defensive coordinator before taking the job with the Titans.

Tanney and Hamilton bring young minds to an already youthful Colts coaching staff. Can Tanney help the offense get to the next level? Will Hamilton assist defenders like JuJu Brents, Jaylon Jones, Dallis Flowers, Nick Cross, and others with efficiency?

These are interesting additions that Steichen has likely had his eyes on since the Colts' season ended in Week 18 against the Houston Texans. We'll see what other changes might happen, as Indy's 2024 off-season is just getting started.
