Commanders' Jacoby Brissett 'Still Processing' Being Named Starting QB vs. 49ers

The Washington Commanders made the decision to bench Sam Howell in favor of Jabocy Brissett with the backup quarterback admitting he's still processing the news.

It was the news many thought was coming - the Washington Commanders have benched Sam Howell in favor of veteran Jacoby Brissett.

After Howell had struggled in back-to-back weeks that saw him be replaced by Brissett twice, the writing was on the wall for Howell. While he has shown promise this season, the long grind of an NFL season appears to have caught up with him.

So now, it's Brissett's show for the final two games.

“Still processing it right now, obviously," Brissett said on being named the starter. "But that's how this league works, man. You got to go out there and just got to get ready to prepare to win a game.”

Brissett came into the game against the Los Angeles Rams and completed eight of his 10 passes for 124 yards and two touchdowns and then followed that up against the New York Jets by completing 10 of his 13 passes for 100 yards and a touchdown.

In both games, the Commanders were being well beaten, and Brissett came in and nearly snatched victory with two good performances.

But in Brissett's first game as the starter, he won't get a soft landing as he will face a San Francisco 49ers team that had their soul taken by the Baltimore Ravens and will want retribution.

“Just got to go play clean, good football and obviously they're a good team all-around, good offense, good defense, good special teams," Brissett said. "In this league, you just got to play clean football and any Sunday, anything can happen. So, you give yourself the best chance when you go out there and play clean football.”

The Commanders haven't had the season many had hoped for and despite starting the year 2-0, things went south quickly.

While yes, there have been bright spots, they have been few and far between and now, it's up to Brissett to try and salvage something from the season and end it on a high.
