Washington Commanders' Eric Bieniemy Reveals Sam Howell Goal for Final 4 Games

The Washington Commanders have four games left in their season and offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy has detailed what he wants to see out of Sam Howell in the closing stages of the year.

The Washington Commanders haven't had the season many had hoped for as they sit at 4-9 and on a four-game losing streak. But one positive of sorts has been the development of Sam Howell as the team's quarterback.

With the playoffs, technically not out of reach, the Commanders still have something to play for in their final four games. For most, it's about pride and the organization will be watching intently to see which players they want to take with them as they continue the rebuilding phase.

For offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, what does he want to see from Howell in the remaining games?

“Continue progression, just continuing to grow as a leader, continue to grow as a player," Bieniemy said. "I basically told him he's beyond his first-year status as a rookie because he's played a number of plays, but I also understand that sometimes he's going to look at things for the very first time and something's going to happen that has not happened before. So, I also think about that, and I'm very sensitive towards that.

"I want to see him grow and continue as a leader. But on top of that, just watching his game progress. I think he has a good feel for the game, but we have to be better. There's a number of things that he can be better at, but that's something that will keep between us. But I know he's taken the necessary steps moving forward, so I'm excited about that.”

Commanders offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy is looking for Sam Howell to show progression as a player in the final month of the season.

Howell has shown enough promise to make a case to be Washington's starter next season, despite the 4-9 record the team currently has. With five 300+ passing yard games, five multiple touchdown games, and two game-winning drives, there is enough to suggest Howell could be the answer long-term.

But with Washington currently slated to have a top pick in a draft that is littered with talented quarterbacks, the Commanders might have a decision to make.

Howell himself stated he doesn't worry about his future and with four games to go, all he can do is put his best foot forward and as Bieniemy says, continue to progress as a player and leader.
