Commanders Coach Ron Rivera Gives Hint to Offensive Success

In this story:
The Washington Commanders have a ton of talented playmakers on the offensive side of the ball.
Having players like Terry McLaurin, Jahan Dotson and Curtis Samuel catching passes while Brian Robinson Jr. and Antonio Gibson can be extremely versatile out of the backfield is a big reason why the team was comfortable giving Sam Howell an opportunity to earn the team's starting quarterback job.
Ultimately, if the receivers and running backs can win their individual matchups, the offense can be explosive.
“Well, I think and I know he's talked about this is we're talking about matchups," head coach Ron Rivera said. "How do we create the matchups? How do we create the mismatches that we want to try and exploit? That's one of the things that he's working on. I was sitting through their [offensive] installation meeting this morning and listening to the coach [Eric Bieniemy] and what he was telling the guys about some of the stuff they're putting in. It's really about trying to find the opportunity to exploit it and that's probably the biggest thing."
Eric Bieniemy, who the Commanders hired this offseason after serving the past five years as the Kansas City Chiefs' offensive coordinator, will be tasked with creating these mismatches for his receivers.
Given the fact that Washington's skill players represent arguably the deepest position on the team, it's an area the Commanders can use to build the foundation of their team. Teams like the Cincinnati Bengals and Philadelphia Eagles are successful because of their wideouts, and with the help of Rivera, Bieniemy and the receivers, Washington can enjoy similar types of success.
