Commanders Feel 'Comfortable' Going Into NFL Draft, Says Ron Rivera

In this story:
The Washington Commanders are just days away from the NFL Draft and it would be understandable if the team was feeling the pressure.
However, that isn't the vibe in the nation's capital, at least from head coach Ron Rivera's words at the pre-draft press conference.
“I think every situation is kind of new," Rivera said. "This year we feel very comfortable going into the draft. I think with a lot of things that we did in free agency really helped us out. I thought Martin and the personnel group really came to us with a lot of positive players to look at, we were able to choose several guys that we feel very strongly about. We took a couple of starters from other teams and put them on our roster. We feel like we did a couple of good things.”
The Commanders, all things considered, had a successful free agency. After using the franchise tag on Daron Payne, they swiftly signed him to a long-term extension. They lost some pieces, but made comparable additions to combat the subtractions. This momentum can lead into the draft, where the Commanders don't "need" to draft a specific position at any point.
Washington can go into the draft with a host of players the team likes regardless of position, which will allow the Commanders to sleep well at night knowing their team will improve regardless of which specific players join the squad.
