Jerry Jones Reveals Cowboys' Dak Prescott 'Dramatic Change’ at Age 30

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones reflects on how much quarterback Dak Prescott has grown since he was drafted out of the fourth round in 2016.

The Dallas Cowboys' 2016 season was one that practically nobody expected.

In his third preseason game, starting quarterback Tony Romo went down with a compression fracture of his L1 vertebrae, sidelining him for what was supposed to be 6-10 weeks.

Rookie fourth-round pick Dak Prescott was named the starter, mainly due to his jaw-dropping preseason performance. Fans were uncertain if the unproven Day 3 selection could take on the responsibility of being the quarterback for "America's Team."

Prescott led the Cowboys to a 13-3 record and won the Offensive Rookie of the Year award with former Dallas running back Ezekiel Elliott as the runner-up. Romo was healthy again in the middle of the season, but Dak remained the starter. Romo was released that offseason and Prescott has been the man under center (when healthy) ever since.

Seven years later, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is reflecting on how much the 30-year-old quarterback has grown.

"(Prescott) has the right interpretation of being 30," Jones told Kyle Youmans on Monday. "He has dramatically added to his awareness and his judgement. He has physically become stronger with his throwing and he has learned to use his legs and his feet placement so he can lever."

An argument could be made that no professional sports team has had more pressure to win a championship over the last decade than the Dallas Cowboys. However, since Prescott was drafted, they've made the playoffs four times and have won two games.

As the NFL community begins to pull the age card out of their magic bag of critiques, Jones shut down the claims that Prescott is running out of time to hoist the Lombardi Trophy.

"People say, ‘We’ll, he's 30, but hasn't won a Super Bowl.' I don't remember what I could do at 27 that I couldn't do at 30 or what I could do at 26 and I couldn't do at 28," Jones said. "My point is there's nothing but pluses for us that he's 30 years old. Talk to me 10 years from now and we'll talk about his age."

As Prescott enters his eighth season as the Week 1 starter, he along with the rest of the Cowboys' talented roster have the Super Bowl on their minds. … with their maturing QB Prescott as a Jerry-endorsed centerpiece.
