Dallas Cowboys Vs Green Bay Packers Gameday Open Thread

The Dallas Cowboys will take on the Green Bay Packers at 3:25 p.m. CT on Fox as they look to 4-1 on the regular season.

The Packers will be without star wideout DaVante Adams for the matchup after a toe injury he suffered in last week's loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Adams was not able to practice all week due and was ruled out on Friday. 

The Packers are now without a true number one wideout in their passing game, with Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Geronimo Allison, and Jake Kumerow all in line to see increased targets from Aaron Rodgers this week.  

Receiving some good news on one of their own receivers, the Dallas Cowboys will welcome Michael Gallup back into the fold this week after he missed the last two games due to a torn meniscus. 

Our own Mike Fisher first reported Gallup's return this week, in a story that was later 're-broken' by ESPN's Adam Schefter on Sunday Morning. 

Tyron Smith will also miss this week for Dallas after suffering a high-ankle sprain in the waning moments of last week's loss to the New Orleans Saints last Sunday night. Cam Flemming, who spent a good portion of his career protecting Tom Brady in New England, has been tabbed as Smith's replacement this week. 

The Cowboys will still be without defensive linemen Antwan Woods but will welcome back Tyrone Crawford along the defensive front this week after he had missed the last few games with a hip issue.

First Quarter

After winning the toss, the Cowboys elected to defer and, after kicking to the Packers, held Aaron Rodgers and company without a first down. Dallas then took over to start their first drive from their own 25-yard-line. 

On their first possession, the Cowboys sliced through the Packer defense on the first three plays. But on Prescott's second pass attempt, the ball would bounce off of Amari Cooper's hands, right into the hands of a Green Bay defensive back, resulting in the interception. 

On their next chance, the Packers would capitalize on the turnover, marching down the field and finishing off the drive with an Aaron Jones touchdown run to go up 7-0. 

The Cowboys put together the makings of another promising drive on their next possession, but came up empty yet again, and were forced to punt back to Green Bay. 

The Packers marched right back down the field on the ensuing drive, capping it off with another Aaron Jones touchdown run, and take a 14-0 lead with 0:03 to go in the first quarter. 

Second Quarter

To start the second quarter, the Cowboys once again put together the makings of a promising drive, only to for Prescott to toss his second pick of the game. The Packers took over for the next drive at their own 28-yard-line, with momentum squarely on their side. 

The Cowboys defense would finally make a stand on Green Bay's next drive, pressuring Aaron Rodgers into an incompletion, and forcing the Packers to punt. 

After yet another promising start, Dallas came up empty on yet another drive following a third-down sack of Dak Prescott, giving the Packers the ball back with a 14-0 lead and 8:22 to go in the half. 

Green Bay would take more than six minutes off the clock on the next possession, taking the ball all the way down the Cowboys one-yard-line. Dallas was able to make a stop, however, holding the Packers to a field goal, and making the score 17-0 Green Bay with 2:19 to go in the half. 

The Cowboys finally got in position to put some points on the board on their final possession of the first half, but after Prescott missed on two-straight passes, the Cowboys were forced to settle for a field goal. Maher would miss the attempt, leaving the Cowboys down 17-0. 

Third Quarter

The Cowboys came up empty on their first drive of the second half, only to surrender yet another impressive drive to Aaron Rodgers and the Packer offense. That drive culminated in another Aaron Jones touchdown, putting Green Bay up 24-0.

The Cowboys were finally able to get on the board with a field goal to get the Green Bay lead down to 24-3. The Packers would answer in a hurry, however, with Jones running in yet another touchdown to extend the Packer lead out to 28 points at 31-3

On the next trip down the field, Dallas was at last able to end their touchdown drought when Prescott hit Michael Gallup for the long touchdown pass down the right sideline, making the score 31-10 with two minutes to go in the third quarter. 

Fourth Quarter

After getting a stop on their next drive, Dallas began an impressive drive into Green Bay territory, that was sparked by a sideline grab from Amari Cooper in Packers territory. Despite a couple of nearly-critical mistakes, that were both called back by Green Bay penalties, Dallas was able to get into the end zone to cut the Green Bay lead down to 14 at 31-17 with 13:52 to go in the game. 

After the Cowboys managed to stall Aaron Rodgers and the Packer offense on what was arguably their best defensive drive of the game, Prescott immediately gave the ball back to Green Bay on his third interception of the game. Once again though, the Cowboys were able to get off the field and force a Green Bay field goal to make the score 34-17 with eight minutes to go. 

The Cowboys responded the next time they had the ball, however, when Prescott hit Amari cooper for a 53-yard touchdown, making the score 34-24 Packers with 7:46 to go. 

The Cowboys would have a late chance to cut into the Packer lead and make it a one-score game, but Brett Maher would miss his second field goal of the game, ending what little chance the Cowboys had at a historic comeback bid.
