In this story:

Head coach Mike McDaniel spoke to reporters at the Baptist Health Training Complex on Friday.

Here were the highlights of that media session:

-- First question deals with whether De'Von Achane definitely will be active against the Raiders, but McDaniel says he's not prepared to do that without seeing how practice goes Friday. You can expect Achane to play (this is us saying it).

-- Robert Hunt will be out for the Raiders game. "I think it would be pretty risky this week." Adds he didn't have a setback.

-- WR Chase Claypool had a minor procedure done on his knee during the bye week. He'll be week-to-week.

-- WR Braxton Berrios is another player where the Dolphins have to get through practice Friday to see if he can play Sunday.

-- Liam Eichenberg has been working at right guard this week, and McDaniel says he opened the team's eyes with his work at center.

-- McDaniel will be facing fellow Yale product Pat Graham, the Raiders defensive coordinator and former Dolphins DC, and called him a "great guy." Says he knows him pretty well.

-- Asked to revisit the decision to hire Butch Barry as offensive line coach despite the bad reviews Barry got in Denver and at the University of Miami, McDaniel said he did his due diligence to make sure he "wasn't just chasing familiarity" because the two had worked together in San Francisco.

-- McDaniel confirmed the reason the Dolphins made the move to waive Robbie Chosen on Thursday was the idea of re-signing him quickly to the practice squad — as we suggested on the AllDolphins Podcast — though he has to clear waivers first. And that might not happen given Jets head coach Robert Saleh saying he was intrigued by the idea of adding him to his roster.

-- Talking about Austin Jackson's development, McDaniel praises his work ethic and also points out how young Jackson was when he first got into the NFL and had to deal with a lot of chatter about his performance the past couple of years.
