Philadelphia Eagles receiver A.J. Brown did reach one milestone in a 28-23 win over the Dallas Cowboys at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday, but also saw his historic streak snapped in a rare pedestrian performance.

With seven catches for 66 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's victory, Brown did top the 1,000-yard mark, a pretty staggering accomplishment given that it's only Week 9. Brown is the second receiver to top 1,000 yards receiving this season, as Tyreek Hill of the Miami Dolphins has 1,076 receiving yards as well. It's the fourth time in five NFL seasons that Brown has posted at least 1,000 receiving yards, and second in as many seasons with the Eagles.

However, Brown did finish the game well shy of 125 receiving yards, snapping his streak of six consecutive games with at least that many. In a 38-31 win over the Washington Commanders in Week 8, Brown had eight catches for 130 yards, making him the first receiver in NFL history with at least 125 receiving yards in six straight games, snapping a tie with Hall of Famer Calvin Johnson.

Brown entered Sunday's game against the Cowboys on pace to set a new single-season receiving record, with the aforementioned Johnson reaching the current mark with 1,964 yards in 2012 with the Detroit Lions in 16 games. Brown and all NFL players now have a 17th regular season game at their disposal, but with a subpar performance Sunday, Brown is now on track to "only" finish the season with 1,898 receiving yards. That would be the third most in a single-season, behind only Johnson and the 1,947 yards that Cooper Kupp racked up for the Los Angeles Rams in 2021.

Nonetheless, Brown should remain at the forefront of the Offensive Player of the Year race as the Eagles head into the bye. Hill also had one of his poorer games of the season in Week 9, catching eight passes for 62 yards as the Dolphins lost to the Kansas City Chiefs. Hill is still on track to finish the season with over 2,000 receiving yards, which would set a new single-season record and likely earn him the top honor for offensive players, if not serious MVP consideration.

However, Brown is still within striking distance, and right or wrong, if the Eagles are the No. 1 seed in the NFC, he might be able to edge Hill out for such an award if neither or both of them break the record.
