In what Washington fans will surely celebrate as a "Ding, Dong, The Witch is Dead!'' moment, Commanders owner Dan Snyder has an agreement in principle in place to sell the team to Josh Harris and his group at a sales price of $6 billion.

Harris - who has engineered the priciest purchase in NFL history - for the most expensive sale in league history - owns the NBA's Philadelphia 76ers and the NHL's New Jersey Devils.

His group in the Commanders bid reportedly includes D.C.-area billionaire Mitchell Rales as well as NBA Hall of Famer Magic Johnson, with Washington ex QB Robert Griffin III also involved at some level.

"I need a Commanders Super Bowl ring!'' Magic recently said.

The sale must be approved by three-quarters of NFL ownership, which will not be an obstacle as Snyder's partners have hoped to find a way for him to exit the league after years of failure and, more recently, allegations of scandalous front-office behavior involving everything from financial misappropriation to charges of a sexual nature.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos took himself out of the running to buy the Commanders with word that Snyder - who is no friend of Bezos' - was simply using his involvement to drive up the price.

As it relates to the Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys and the rest of the NFC East and beyond, the departure of Snyder from the league is actually a bad thing. Why? Because Josh Harris and the new ownership group cannot possibly run the Washington franchise as poorly as its been run for decades ...

Meaning the Commanders might actually suddenly be a threat to their on-field rivals.
