Eagles Finish Off Rookie Class by Signing Jalen Hurts, Six Others

A slow trickle turned into a downpour on Monday afternoon when the Eagles finished off the business end of their 2010 draft class by officially inking the entire group.

Earlier Monday first-round pick Jalen Reagor signed his four-year deal worth slightly more than $13 million with a fifth-year team option.

The TCU product joined sixth-rounders, offensive tackle Prince Tega Wanogho of Auburn and receiver Quez Watkins of Southern Miss, as the only three picks signed with less than 24 hours before the rookies were scheduled to report for the opening of training camp at the NovaCare Complex.

The Eagles then announced a cluster-signing of the final seven unsigned picks: second-round quarterback Jalen Hurts of Oklahoma, third-round linebacker Davion Taylor of Colorado, fourth-rounders K’Von Wallace, a safety from Clemson, and offensive lineman Jack Driscoll of Auburn, fifth-round receiver John Hightower of Boise State, sixth-round Temple linebacker Shaun Bradley and seventh-round Stanford edge rusher Casey Toohill.

The rookies, of course, have not been permitted at the NovaCare Complex due to the COVID-19 pandemic and their first foray into NFL life was done in a virtual fashion.

The headliners of the final group to sign were Hurts and Taylor.

Hurts, the Heisman Trophy runner-up with the Sooners last season, is expected to vie with Nate Sudfield to be Carson Wentz’s backup.

“There is a lot of knowledge in the quarterback room and a lot of knowledge in the organization,” Hurts said after being selected at No. 53 overall back in April.”For me to have the opportunity to learn, take steps as a quarterback and grow, I'm looking forward to it. I'm ready to go to work. I've said that a thousand times, but yeah, I've always been about the grind, and I'm just ready to go work.”

Taylor, a wildly athletic but raw linebacking prospect from Colorado, will have a chance to compete at a position with few proven commodities.

“I just had this itch to keep on learning about the game, and each game just seemed to get better on the field, and like that next level,” Taylor said. “But I still have that itch just to keep on learning, and I feel like the more I learn the more I'm going to be able to compete and just become a better player.”

Per the NFL’s slotting system the rookies who signed today all got four-year deals.

Hurts got just over $6 million with workout bonuses in Year 3 of $75,000 and Year 4 of $100K, per NFL Media. Taylor got just under $4.5M.
