Eagles Should Sign DeAndre Hopkins, Pair with Jalen Hurts?

Along with making Jalen Hurts their franchise quarterback, the Philadelphia Eagles have proven from top to bottom that they check off the boxes on DeAndre Hopkins' list.

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has clearly caught the eye of star receiver DeAndre Hopkins. But could the roles suddenly be reversed?

The Arizona Cardinals announced Friday that they've cut the veteran receiver after months of trade rumors and speculation led to nowhere. But there's no speculating how Hopkins feels about Hurts, which would make his potential addition to a championship roster and offense all the more interesting.

During a recent appearance on the I AM ATHLETE podcast, Hopkins was asked about which quarterback he'd love to have throwing him the rock. In fitting fashion, since he's been so involved in trade speculation with the Buffalo Bills, Josh Allen was the first name Hopkins mentioned.

But after praising Allen, Hurts was Hopkins' pick at No. 2.

"Jalen Hurts. Man, he's a Houston kid, he a dog," he said.

Hopkins joining an Eagles offense already featuring A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith and Hurts? It sounds way too good to be true. If general manager Howie Roseman were to pull that kind of trade off, might as well give Philly the Lombardi.

But the Eagles coukd feel that their future is better worth investing into franchise receivers like A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. Set to be 31 before the season starts, it's possible Philly may not want to throw money at Hopkins.

Still, a Super Bowl would suddenly be even closer within reach. Hopkins' morale would also presumably be high after landing on a team that could be on his unofficial wish list based on recent comments. He previously also put an emphasis on the type of front office and quarterback he wants to continue his career with, whether that be in Arizona or elsewhere.

"What I want is stable management upstairs," Hopkins said. "I think that’s something I haven’t really had the past couple years of my career coming from Houston and then to Arizona. I’ve been through three or four GMs in my career, so a stable management. A QB who loves the game, a QB who brings everybody on board with him and pushes not just himself but everybody around him ... and a great defense. A great defense wins championships.”

Along with making Hurts their franchise quarterback, the Eagles have proven from top to bottom that they check off the boxes on Hopkins' list. But the Eagles will have some stout competition if they due indeed decide to pursue one of the league's best receivers.
