Eagles' Fletcher Cox Praises Jalen Carter: 'He's Special!'

Philadelphia Eagles All-Pro defensive tackle Fletcher Cox shared what's stood out most about rookie Jalen Carter.

Based on the rave reviews that Philadelphia Eagles four-time all-pro defensive tackle Fletcher Cox has given No. 9 overall pick Jalen Carter, the rookie could be a star in the making.

"Wow, the first time I've seen him in team drills ... and just seeing how strong the guy is," Cox told 94WIP when talking about Carter. "The way that he moves. You see why he was—probably should have been the number one pick in the draft. He's special, and I'm glad that he's here.

Widely considered the best defender in his draft class, Carter fell to Philly and is now attempting to become the first defensive tackle since NFL superstar Aaron Donald to win Defensive Rookie of the Year with the St. Louis Rams in 2014. Already getting the respect of a six-time Pro Bowler like Cox is a terrific start.

Although Carter is a beast physically, Cox said that his ability to learn quickly is what’s stood out about the Eagles' rookie.

“The biggest thing is just seeing him go out and destroy people and being a pro," Cox said. "I can say he’s soaking it up. He’s learning each day. ... Being smart, making smart decisions on the field, knowing the playbook. I think he’s got a pretty good handle scheme-wise and what the coaches expect of him. And now it’s up to him to go out and execute on the field and ball out.”

Now all that’s left for Carter is to prove Cox right by dominating in games and helping Philly make it back to the Super Bowl.
