Eagles CB Darius Slay Praises Jalen Hurts for 'Not Trying to Be Superman'

Despite finishing second in MVP voting last season, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts still has potential for growth, according to veteran cornerback Darius Slay.

Last season, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts improved in all facets of his game, and with that improvement came a Super Bowl appearance. However, All-Pro veteran cornerback Darius Slay still believes Hurts has untapped potential.

“His potential is crazy; he just comes in and works. Great leader,” Slay said of Hurts on The Pat McAfee Show. “He comes to practice every day and competes at a high level. The guy asks questions to everybody."

While many young Eagles fans certainly look up to Hurts as a superstar and role model, Slay had unique praise for the quarterback in that he's not always trying to be a superhero amongst men.

"He just wants to be the best at what he can do," Slay said. "He’s not tryna be everybody’s Superman. He’s just doing his job at the best level he can.”

Back in 2021, the Eagles, led by Hurts, were a first-round exit. But last season, Hurts improved drastically, and by pairing his success with the team's elite defense, they earned a first-round bye in the playoffs.

Last year, Hurts upped his 2021 production across the board, raising his completion percentage by over five percent (66.5), throwing for over 550 more yards (3,701), adding six passing touchdowns (22), reducing his interceptions thrown by 33 percent (six) and ran for three more touchdowns (13).

Suppose Hurts hasn’t reached his full potential and continues to develop his game at the superstar level he did between the 2021 and 2022 seasons. In that case, Eagles fans can expect to watch him assert himself in the league MVP conversation en route to Philadelphia potentially winning its second Super Bowl in franchise history.
