Eagles' Top-3 Players: Who Makes the Cut?

Despite losing some talented players this offseason, the Philadelphia Eagles have plenty to spare, making PFF’s mission to identify the team's top-three contributors a challenging one.

The Philadelphia Eagles lost some impact players off their 2022 NFC Championship squad, that much is certain.

But the Eagles also kept a lot of critical pieces, and brought in new ones who could prove to be just as good.

While the coaching changes might standout the most at the end of the season, Pro Football Focus recently turned its focus to the roster itself and tried to identify the three-top players on Philadelphia’s roster.

It was a task the site says was no small feat, but in the end it came away with its three choices:

- QB Jalen Hurts

- OT Lane Johnson

- WR A.J. Brown

“With so many good players on the Eagles’ roster, trimming this down to three was quite the challenge,” PFF writes. “H took a leap last season, earning an 88.2 overall grade thanks to his 83.8 passing grade and 83.8 rushing grade. Johnson has simply been one of the most dominant offensive tackles in football, despite playing through injury like he did last year. And Brown proved the trade price and contract extension for his services were well worth it, earning an 87.7 overall grade. It was his third straight season with an 86.0-plus mark.”

It shouldn’t come as a huge surprise that all three players came from the offensive side of the ball, but that doesn’t mean the Eagles are absent of talent on the defense.

In fact, both cornerback Darius Slay and edge defender Haason Reddick were considered for the top three players in Philadelphia before the three offensive contributors were selected.

Offensive linemen Jason Kelce and Jordan Mailata were also considered.

When we get to the end of the Eagles’ bid to repeat as NFC Champions, and return home with Lombardi Trophy in hand, it’ll be the team that writes the story.

But these three players are leading the narrative according to PFF, with their four teammates providing the subtext that will ultimately tell the story of Eagles football in 2023.
