Eagles vs. Giants Preview: Jalen Hurts on Record Watch in Regular-Season Finale

Philadelphia Eagles vs. New York Giants Preview: Jalen Hurts on Record Watch in Regular-Season Finale

In their final game of NFL regular season, the Philadelphia Eagles travel to face the New York Giants. The Sunday afternoon matchup at MetLife Stadium is highlighted by the Eagles' chance to sweep the NFC East division foe.

Sunday’s game is the second of two matchups in a three-week span between the teams. In Week 16, the Eagles won 33-25.

After going 1-4 in their last five matchups, including a shocking 35-31 loss to the Arizona Cardinals last week that dropped them out of the division lead, the Eagles could use a win before heading into the playoffs.

The Eagles can still win the NFC East, and thus get the No. 2 seed with potentially two home playoff games. But in order to do so, the Eagles must beat the Giants and the Dallas Cowboys must lose to the 4-12 Washington Commanders. Both games kickoff at the same time (4:25 p.m. ET).

The Giants, who already eliminated from the postseason with an eye on the 2024 NFL Draft, could play spoiler. Last week, the Giants went toe-to-toe with the Los Angeles Rams, but fell short in a 26-25 loss at home.

The Eagles already officially clinched a playoff spot, their third straight postseason trip. Nick Sirianni is the first head coach in franchise history to earn trips to the postseason in each of their first three years with the team.

RECORD WATCH: Quarterback Jalen Hurts needs 197 passing yards to become just the second quarterback in franchise history to hit 4,000 in one season, joining Carson Wentz, who did it in 2019 when he threw for 4,039 yards.

RECORDS: Philadelphia Eagles (11-5) at New York Giants (5-11)

ODDS: Philadelphia is a 5.5-point favorite vs. the Giants

GAME TIME: Sunday Jan. 7th, 2024 at 4:25 p.m. ET

THE FINAL WORD:

“I have the same hunger, maybe a different hunger to achieve what’s in front of us,: Hurts said. "Maybe a little different. You kind of have the taste of getting the taste of something and coming up short in it, so obviously you’d love to get there and have an opportunity to do that, but it’s one day at a time. I don’t even want to look over this game in front of us.”
