The Eagles dotted the I’s and crossed the T’s when it came to veteran offensive lineman Jason Peters Friday and needed to make room on the 90-man offseason roster.

Philadelphia waived versatile tight end and Delaware native Alex Ellis to make room for Peters, who will be transitioning from left tackle to right guard as the replacement for the injured Brandon Brooks.

The Eagles agreed to a one-year, $3 million deal with Peters earlier this week that could be with as much as $6M for the nine-time Pro Bowl selection.

Ellis bounced around between the active roster, practice squad, and the waiver wire for Philadelphia last season after arriving in early August. He was waived at the final cutdown and brought back to the practice squad the next day. By the season opener, Ellis was promoted to the 53-man roster but waived after Week 1 and signed back to the PS.

By mid-September, the University of Tennessee product was back on the active roster until suffering a knee injury against Green Bay. Ellis was waived/injured and subsequently placed on injured reserve when he cleared waivers. From there he was given an injury settlement and was out for two months before being re-signed to the PS on Dec. 16.

Through all of that Ellis played in three games. The Eagles currently have Zach Ertz, Dallas Goedert, Josh Perkins, and undrafted free agent Noah Togiai at tight end.

Peters. the long-time left tackle, is moving with the intent of handing that position over to 2019 first-round pick Andre Dillard and the 2020 offensive line is penciled is as Dillard-Isaac Seumalo-Jason Kelce-Peters and Lane Johnson from left to right.

The Eagles also feel comfortable with Peters as the swing tackle to replace the departed Halapoulivaati Vaitai, who signed a big-money deal in free agency with the Detriot Lions.
