Do the Atlanta Falcons have the worst uniforms in the NFL?

The Atlanta Falcons will need to find a way to feel good without looking good as they try to compete for the NFC South title this season.

On our FanNation/SI countdown of all 32 uniform sets in the NFL ahead of this upcoming campaign, the Falcons came in dead last, and that's really the tip of the iceberg in terms of critiquing their current kit.

"Whether it's with a black or red helmet, we love the Falcons' throwback black uniforms. However, their primary uniform set, introduced prior to the 2020 season, are one of the worst the NFL has ever seen. The "ATL" written across the chest looks cheap. The number font is atrocious. At the very least, coach Arthur Smith revealed the the Falcons are ditching their gradient alternate uniforms in 2023. But you get the feeling it won't be long until the Falcons are once again rebranding."

The Washington Commanders -- a team with a brand that almost no one likes that is flirting with once again searching for a new nickname -- came in ahead of the Falcons. So did the Arizona Cardinals, who received, at best, underwhelming reviews on their new uniform set introduced this offseason. The New York Jets, Los Angeles Rams and Tennessee Titans were among the teams who finished just above Atlanta on this countdown, despite generally being seen as having subpar uniforms.

A silver lining for the Falcons is that the team reintroduced their red throwback helmets last season as an alternate, pairing them with the popular black alternate tops initially worn as a primary uniform from 1990-2002.

NFL teams typically keep their primary uniforms for at least five years before refreshing, so Atlanta is likely stuck with their unsightly current ones through the 2024 season. But come 2025, Atlanta would be wise to lean into these throwbacks on a full-time basis, because their current uniforms are embarrassing.
