Falcons Have 'Magnet' From National Champion Georgia to Atlanta

From Athens to Atlanta, the Falcons have a pipeline in how they recruit each draft class.

Other than the Alabama Crimson Tide, there's no college team with more representation at the NFL Combine than the two-time defending National Champion Georgia Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs have 12 alumni showcasing their talents at the Combine this weekend, something the Atlanta Falcons have taken notice.

"It's good players from the Georgia Bulldogs here, but there's also a lot of good players in Georgia," general manager Terry Fontenot said. "And that's something we lose sight of we actually on our magnets on or there's a free agent board or a college draft board, we put a piece on there."

Last year, the Falcons spent a pair of sixth-round picks on Bulldogs, offensive lineman Justin Shaffer and tight end John FitzPatrick.

And, there's a good chance the Falcons could once again look locally for new draftees.

"That's a really good prospect here that we're excited about," Fontenot said. "We're also excited about a lot of Georgia natives."

Georgia's football development has caught more attention with the pair of National Championships the program has won over the past two years, and the Falcons want a piece of the action.

For the past 22 seasons, a Georgia Bulldog has appeared in the Super Bowl, and the Falcons hope one day that these college players can represent their home state and their football team simultaneously on the game's greatest stage.
