Daniel Jones Unsure if He'll Be Ready for Week 7

Jones is doing all he can to overcome his latest neck injury.

New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones is doing everything he can to recover from a neck injury suffered two weeks ago against Miami that has already cost him one start this season.

But while he hopes to be cleared to play, Jones sounded uncertain whether that would happen.

Speaking with Kay Adams on her Up & Adams podcast, Jones said it was "tough to say" whether he'd be able to make enough progress to practice this week, let alone play on Sunday when the Giants host the Washington Commanders.

“I’m trying hard to get back,” Jones told Adams. “Still dealing with it a little bit, but trying to do everything I can to heal up and prove to the doctors and trainers that I’m ready to go.”

Jones, who has said that his current neck injury is not the same as the one that ended his 2021 season six games early, did not practice last week as a precaution. Presumably, he would have to at least be limited to have a chance at playing this weekend.

If he is not cleared to participate in practice in what's a controlled environment, he is likely looking at missing his second straight game.

Jones and the Giants have been relatively tight-lipped about his latest neck injury, though, over the weekend, he told NBC reporter Melissa Stark that he has pain in the left side of his neck and symptoms affecting his left (non-throwing) shoulder.

Those symptoms, he told Adams, are why he missed Sunday's game against the Bills.

Jones is thought to be receiving an aggressive course of rehab that, he told Adams, has included soft-tissue work, needling, and exercises to “try and get everything working again and doing what it needs to do.”

Meanwhile, the Giants are exploring their options if Jones isn't cleared for contact anytime soon. On Monday, they hosted quarterbacks Matt Barkley and Ian Book for workouts, but thus far have not signed either.

New York elevated Tomy DeVito from its practice squad on Sunday to backup Tyrod Taylor, so they could stick with that duo for now. However, last week, head coach Brian Daboll said that he and general manager Joe Schoen would discuss their options, including the possibility of adding a veteran if Jones's injury turns out to be a long-term affair.
