Brandon Jacobs Weighs in on J.J. McCarthy Possibly Landing with the Giants

Not a fan.

That's what former New York Giants running back Brandon Jacobs said in an unsolicited response to a post by X (formerly Twitter) by a Giants fan asking what grade fellow fans would give the team if they were to draft Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy with the sixth overall pick.

Jacobs, who played for the team from 2005-2011 and again in 2013, is a two-time Super Bowl champion who had the privilege of playing in the same offense as Eli Manning, whom the team traded for a year before Jacobs joined the club as their fourth-round pick out of Southern Illinois.

While he didn't elaborate on his two-word response, he would rather see his old team go in a completely different direction in the first round of the draft.

Jacobs isn't alone in his feelings. Although McCarthy seems to be rising on draft boards, there is still a significant number of fans who believe that drafting McCarthy sixth overall would be a reach of gigantic proportions.

His former college coach, Jim Harbaugh, now head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers, however, still thinks McCarthy is the best quarterback in the draft, reiterating as much at the league's annual meetings this week in Orlando, Florida.

The Giants have not ruled out selecting a quarterback in next month's draft. While general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll have backed incumbent Daniel Jones by saying he'd start once healthy, the team's brass reportedly has some significant concerns about Jones's injury history, particularly his two neck injuries over the last three seasons.

Jones, who is currently rehabbing from a torn ACL, has made it through just one season unscathed, that in 2022, which happened to be his best campaign as a pro. He earned a four-year, $160 million contract that has an out for the team after two years.

Schoen has indicated that Jones is making good progress in his rehab schedule, but he and Daboll have held off on saying when they anticipate Jones will be ready to hit the field.
