Jaguars Rookie Review: Updates on Each 2023 Draft Pick After Week 10 Loss vs. 49ers

The Jacksonville Jaguars are looking for answers after a 34-3 home loss to the San Francisco 49ers in Week 10.

"It’s a head-scratcher and things that when you look at it, four giveaways, five sacks, no takeaways, two sacks I think, start the game with a touchdown, end the half with a field goal, start the third quarter with a touchdown," Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said on Monday.

"All things that are you kind of ‘eh’ right there. I want them to see it, I want them to make the corrections and move on.”

Can the Jaguars' rookie class help them fix Sunday's mistakes? We take a look at their involvement vs. the 49ers to determine.

1st, No. 27: OT Anton Harrison, Oklahoma

The Jaguars seem to have some optimism around first-round right tackle Anton Harrison's performance vs. Joey Bosa and Chase Young, but it was far from an ideal game. Harrison allowed three pressures, per PFF, and allowed a sack. Harrison has improved since Week 1, but it is clear that there are still mismatches in games where he facing a top-tier pass-rusher.

“I just think they haven’t played together for a length of time. I think there’s a lot of moving pieces there. Anton [Harrison] continues to improve each week, I said the other day that I thought he had one of his better performances against a really good front," Pederson said this week.

"Luke [Fortner] and Brandon [Scherff] are the staples there. Cam [Robinson] is Cam and that left guard spot has been a little bit of a revolving door right now. There’s been some uneasiness there, but I think these guys, the more they play together, the more comfortable and confident they’ll be in these next eight games.”

2nd, No. 61: TE Brenton Strange, Penn State

It was a slow week for second-round tight end Brenton Strange, who played just 14 snaps. Seven of those came as a run-blocker and seven came as a route-runner, though he interestingly didn't pass-protect once. Look for that number to potentially increase if the Jaguars go with max protection looks to help the deep passing game improve.

3rd, No. 88: RB Tank Bigsby, Auburn

Despite Travis Etienne playing his lowed snap count of the season, Tank Bigsby played just 10 snaps and was effectively the team's No. 3 running back behind Etienne and D'Ernest Johnson, who out-snapped Bigsby for the first time this season. Bigsby ran three times for five yards with a long rush of three, though this was largely due to an ineffective offensive line.

4th, No. 121: LB Ventrell Miller, Florida

Ventrell Miller is on injured reserve and is not on the active roster.

4th, No. 130: DL Tyler Lacy, Oklahoma State

Lacy played just 16 snaps vs. the 49ers, but he seemingly earned those reps in practice since he was named active over veteran defensive lineman Angelo Blackson. Lacy made the best of those reps, too, by recording the first quarterback hit of his career and a near-sack of Brock Purdy.

5th, No. 136: EDGE/LB Yasir Abdullah, Louisville

Yasir Abdullah was a healthy scratch in Week 10.

5th, No. 160: DB Antonio Johnson, Texas A&M

Antonio Johnson didn't record a defensive snap despite the Jaguars playing with three safeties for nearly half the snaps. The Jaguars instead went with veteran safety Andrew Wingard over Johnson, though it produced mixed results.

"There are still some communication things with having three guys out there, they’ve got to talk a little bit better," Pederson said. "There were some mistakes made Sunday that affected some explosive plays for San Francisco. This is a week to be able to clean that stuff up and get on the same page. Having the three out there, Dewey [S Andrew Wingard] is good in and around the box if he’s pressuring, he’s been able to get guys on the ground and be in the post in passing situations. It’s a good combination of the three and obviously we’re going to have to use that more moving forward.”

6th, No. 185: WR Parker Washington, Penn State

Parker Washington is on injured reserve and was not active for Week 10.

6th, No. 202: CB Christian Braswell, Rutgers

Christian Braswell is on injured reserve and was not active for Week 10.

6th, No. 208: S Erick Hallett II, Pittsburgh

Erick Hallett is on the practice squad and was not active for Week 10.

7th, No. 226: OL Cooper Hodges, App. State

Cooper Hodges is on injured reserve and is not on the active roster.

7th, No. 227: DL Raymond Vohasek, UNC

Raymond Vohasek is not on the Jaguars' active roster or practice squad.

7th, No. 240: FB Derek Parish, Houston

Derek Parish is not on the Jaguars' active roster or practice squad.

UDFA: WR Elijah Cooks

Elijah Cooks played 17 snaps and ran 12 routes, but was once again not targeted in the passing game. He has not been targeted this season.
