Pro Football Focus Mock Draft: Jaguars Land Two Playmakers

Pro Football Focus has released a new mock draft with the Jaguars landing two impressive athletes.

'Tis the season. With the 2019 regular season nearly halfway over, mock drafts are begging to ramp up as more teams and fan bases realize that there is always next year. 

Pro Football Focus has released one of these mock drafts following the Jacksonville Jaguars trading Jalen Ramsey to the Los Angeles Rams. Thanks to the blockbuster trade, the Jaguars have additional first-round picks in the 2020 and 2021 NFL Draft, and PFF's most recent mock reflects how huge those assets can be in terms of bringing more playmakers to Jacksonville. 

Here are who PFF has the Jaguars selecting in the 2020 first-round:

Pick #6: Wide receiver Jerry Jeudy, Alabama

"The Jags would have to be running to the podium if Jeudy is still on the board at this point. He’s as special a WR prospect as we’ve seen since we started grading in 2014. Jeudy has broken 27 tackles on 110 catches over the past year and a half."

Jeudy has been a dynamic perimeter threat for the Crimson Tide the last two seasons, leading the best receiving group in college football. So far this season he has 49 receptions for 538 yards and six touchdowns. In 2018 he caught 68 passes for 1,315 yards and 14 touchdowns, shredding defenses with his top-tier athleticism.

Jeudy would solve the Jaguars' problem of having only one true perimeter threat in DJ Chark. As the Week 6 loss to the New Orleans Saints showed, the Jaguars do not have anyone who can put stress on a defense when Chark is taken out of a game. With Jeudy, this would no longer be the case.

Pick #16 (via Rams): Linebacker Isaiah Simmons, Clemson 

"With their newly minted first-round pick, the Jags get the defensive Megatron. Similar to Myles Jack coming out, Simmons toes the line between safety and linebacker. Also similar to Jack, Simmons is damn good. If Telvin Smith were to return, Simmons could even switch to safety full-time, as he’s taken 82 snaps as a deep safety already this year."

Simmons has been an absolute monster for Clemson's undefeated squad this season. A player who people already had high expectations of coming in, Simmons has turned heads with his speed, versatility and violent style of play.

Through six games, Simmons has 51 tackles, eight tackles for loss, four sacks and two forced fumbles. He is simply a playmaker regardless if he is at linebacker or safety. For a Jaguars defense that has struggled to create game-changing plays, Simmons could be just the player to turn the tide.
