All-SEC Offensive Tackle Lands on Jets' Pre-Draft Visitor Log

Gang Green will entertain Tyler Steen ahead of 2023 NFL Draft, per Ian Rapoport

The New York Jets are apparently doing their research on an Alabama offensive lineman.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that tackle/guard prospect Tyler Steen will use one of Gang Green's 30 allotted pre-draft player visits.

Steen seamlessly slid in as Alabama's starting left tackle in 2022 after transferring from fellow Southeastern Conference member Vanderbilt. The 6-foot-6 Steen started all 13 games for the Crimson Tide, who featured the nation's fourth-ranked scoring offense.

The battle-tested Steen earned a spot on the 2022 All-SEC Second Team. According to Alabama Athletics Communications, the veteran bookend permitted only 12 quarterback pressures the entire season.

Coming out of Miami, FL, Steen earned three-star recruit ratings as both an offensive lineman and defensive end.

The native Floridian showed his versatility while at Vanderbilt. Steen, who totaled 38 career appearances with the Commodores, played four games at defensive tackle as a true freshman (2018). He moved to right tackle for his sophomore season followed by a flip to left tackle in 2020.

Steen made 33 consecutive starts to end his tenure in Nashville.

A segment of the draftnik community projects Steen as a more effective NFL guard than a tackle, but he looked fine as a blindside protector against SEC-level competition.

Should the Jets pass on an offensive tackle at No. 13 overall, Steen will likely present an intriguing option later in the Draft.

NFL Draft Bible listed Steen with a fourth-round grade following the Combine.

Excerpt from Steen’s NFL Draft Bible Scouting Report:

"Fires off the ball on run plays, meeting defenders with fundamental knee bend and hand placement and playing long through his elbows. Capable of driving and finishing smaller players. Can bluff and shoot, finding linebackers. Will earhole second-level defenders and create gaps in the run game past the line of scrimmage. Consistent leg drive that pushed the pile. Able to wall off the backside, eliminating any pursuit or cutoff by edge players."
