Jets Land in Bottom Half on NFL.com Draft Grades List

Gang Green one of nine teams to earn a 'B' mark or lower

The New York Jets received another uninspiring grade for their 2023 NFL Draft performance.

After receiving a B- mark from Sports Illustrated, Gang Green earned a B grade from NFL.com draft analyst Chad Reuter.

Although the Jets' mark looks solid on the surface, Reuter is likely guilty of grade inflation. Only four NFL teams earned lower than a B on Reuter's report card.

Twenty-three organizations scored higher than Gang Green's inflated B grade.

In terms of the AFC East Division members, the Jets ranked third overall behind the Buffalo Bills (A) and the New England Patriots (A-). The Miami Dolphins (B-) were at the bottom.

In addition to scoring each team's entire body of work over the three-day draft, Reuter dished out daily grades for every franchise. After a C+ for Thursday's first-round selection of Iowa State edge rusher Will McDonald, the Jets' earned better reviews on Friday (A-) and Saturday (A).

From NFL.com draft analyst Chad Reuter:

New York Jets (Grade: B)

Day 1 grade: C+

Day 2 grade:
A-

Day 3 grade: A

Analysis: "
McDonald's plus length and flexibility off the edge enticed the Jets in the first round, and he'll be dangerous if he's able to consistently get off the blocks of strong NFL linemen. Tippmann has the size and mobility to clear lanes for what the team hopes is a healthy Breece Hall. Aaron Rodgers also factors into the grade here, as the team gave up a '23 second-rounder as part of the trade with Green Bay.

Warren meets the Jets' desire for athletic offensive tackles; if he had been healthy for all of last season, he would have gone on Day 2. If Hall isn't back for the start of the season, Abanikanda's speed might help him find the field early on. Kuntz is a superior athlete for his size, making him one of the best seventh-round selections."

The Jets, who made two Day 3 trades to acquire two additional picks, drafted a total of seven players in Kansas City. They made one selection each of the first two nights and chose five more players on Saturday.
