WATCH: Jets GM favorite Joe Douglas gets rave reviews from ESPN scouting report

League insiders gushed over the Eagles' vice president of player personnel

The New York Jets are reportedly locking in on Joe Douglas as their next GM. The Jets brass had dinner with the Eagles' vice president of player personnel on Saturday night and the interview is on Sunday. On the eve of that interview, ESPN's Rich Cimini has an encouraging scouting report on Douglas.

Cimini spoke with five people with scouting/personnel ties and all gave Douglas the thumbs up. A former associate described Douglas as a "quality option" to lead the Jets. Another source says Douglas is a "scout's scout". Douglas is ready to take the reigns of an organization according to his friends.

Douglas spent the last three years running the Eagles' personnel department and overseeing the scouts on a daily basis. Prior to that, Douglas worked for 15 years with the Ravens. Douglas worked alongside Jets coach Adam Gase with the Bears in 2015 and both share Jimmy Sexton as an agent, which should simplify contract negotiations.

Douglas is described as "quiet" and "easygoing", making Cimini wonder if he can command a room, as well as mesh with a type-A personality such as Gase. It's a valid question but Douglas' laid back nature shouldn't count against him. Douglas is a high-level talent evaluator, evident by being a member of Super Bowl champion squads with the Ravens and Eagles. That's what matters most.

By all accounts, Douglas is the right person for the job and Cimini's scouting report only reinforces that notion.
