Report: Jets' WR2 Will Be Available Monday Night

Veteran receiver expected to suit up vs. Chargers despite landing on injury report late in week

It appears as if the New York Jets will have the services of their WR2 when hosting the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday Night Football.

Listed as questionable on the final injury report, veteran receiver Allen Lazard will be available to play according to a report by ESPN's NFL insider Jeremy Fowler. Citing sources, Fowler said Lazard is "expected to play tonight."

"Barring surprise, Zach Wilson should have the reliable veteran in the passing game," said Fowler in a post on the social media site formerly known as Twitter.

Lazard popped up on the injury report Saturday with a knee issue. He has started all seven games thus far this season for the Jets after signing a four-year free-agent contract this past March. The former Green Bay Packers' leading receiver has gained 255 yards on 17 receptions in 2023.

His availability provides a battle-tested target for quarterback Zach Wilson. Three of the six receivers on the Jets' 53-man roster have only 10 games of combined experience.

Lazard made his presence felt in the Week 8 win over the New York Giants. He made a 29-yard reception to advance the ball to the opponent's 17-yard line and set up Greg Zuerlein's game-tying field goal at the end of regulation.

The Jets (4-3) and the Chargers (3-4) will kick off at 8:15 pm ET on November 6 at MetLife Stadium. Gameday inactives will be available approximately 90 minutes prior to the scheduled kickoff.

The Jets could find some opportunities to move the ball through the air on Monday night. The Chargers rank last in the NFL, allowing opponents to gain 7.80 yards per pass.
