Jets' Starting Safety Already Ruled Out vs. Patriots

In this story:
Both defenses will be without a starting defensive back when the New York Jets host the New England Patriots for an AFC East divisional battle on Sunday at MetLife Stadium.
Prior to Friday's practice, Jets' third-year head coach Robert Saleh ruled out safety Tony Adams with a hamstring injury. The second-year pro has yet to practice this week.
"Tony Adams, he'll be out, dealing with his hamstring," said Saleh in Florham Park.
Adams had played 99 defensive snaps in 1.5 games prior to being injured.
With 6:32 remaining in the second quarter against the Dallas Cowboys, the starting free safety tackled receiver CeeDee Lamb after a 20-yard gain and came up lame. Adams, who had already made five tackles in the game, gingerly jogged off to the sidelines and never returned to action.
The Jets will likely distribute Adams's reps between veteran Adrian Amos and 2021 draft pick Ashtyn Davis.
"We feel good about him [Amos] and Ashtyn working through it," said Saleh.
The Adams update came one day after news emerged that Patriots' starting cornerback Marcus Jones had suffered a torn shoulder labrum in a Week 2 loss to the Miami Dolphins.
"It's unfortunate. I would say he had a really good rookie year. Explosive player," said Patriots' head coach Bill Belichick on Friday.
Jones officially landed on Injured Reserve today. Jets' fans will remember him for the game-winning 84-yard punt return touchdown that sent Gang Green to a 14th consecutive loss in the head-to-head series with New England.
