Chuck Clark's first season with the New York Jets could unfortunately end before it even starts.

The versatile safety reportedly suffered a severe knee injury that may sideline him for the season, but confirmation has yet to emerge.

Gang Green traded a seventh-round draft pick to acquire the veteran defensive back from the Baltimore Ravens in March and the move elicited excitement from head coach Robert Saleh.

"Chuck, another one of those guys who just freaking loves ball. Eats it, lives it. Got a tremendous mindset to him," said Saleh at the NFL League Meetings in late March. "The guy’s got an Iron Man streak, I don’t know what it is, over a 1,000 plays in a row or something like that. Just an incredible talent, tackling machine, so he’s getting into a safety room that we’re really excited about."

Penciled in as the starting free safety, the 28-year old Clark had already developed an on-field relationship with fellow starter Jordan Whitehead during OTAs.

"Already, just their relationship out here has been, it’s been exceptional," said defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich. "You can see Chuck, there’s a reason he’s played such consistent football for such a long time."

Clark, a sixth-round draft pick out of Virginia Tech in 2017, made at least 73 tackles in each of the past four seasons with the Ravens. He accounted for 101 combined stops in 2022.
